As from 21 May 2010 the new Coalition Government suspended the obligation for homeowners to produce a Home Information Pack (HIP) when selling their homes. This initial suspension is pending legislation to fully abolish the HIP. The announcement was made by the Communities Secretary Eric Pickles and Housing Minister Grant Shapps.
There is however still a legal requirement for an Energy Performance Certificate, which ranks the energy efficiency of a home with A to G ratings. This must be commissioned by the seller within 28 days of putting a home on the market.
